Bonnie Vincent established the Dr. Roxana Huebscher Family Nurse Practitioner Scholarship in 2023, in memory of her sister, Dr. Roxana Huebscher. Bonnie’s siblings and in-laws have also contributed to the scholarship fund.

Dr. Roxana Huebscher (1946-2023) was the Graduate Program Director for the College of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh. Dr. Huebscher was one of the first nurse practitioners in the 1970s. She became a national leader and consultant in establishing high quality certification and licensure requirements for this emerging professional group across the country. She brought her enthusiasm and expertise to her clinical teaching role and became a highly respected nursing professor. She retired as Professor Emeritus in 2010 after 17 years of service to the University.

Dr. Huebscher’s research interest included the role of complementary therapies providing comfort and healing to patients. She created and taught courses in complementary natural alternative health care. Dr. Huebscher also staffed a natural alternative health care room within the College of Nursing. In 1994, Dr. Huebscher, along with Mary Barker and Nancy Elsberry, designed and implemented a yearlong post-doctoral program at UW-Oshkosh to train high quality, certified faculty from nursing programs across the country to prepare family nurse practitioners. At the time, it was the nation’s only such program.

Dr. Huebscher was selected for the TRISS Endowed Professorship in 2005. In 1997, she was given the Outstanding Nurse Practitioner Educator Award by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties. Dr. Huebscher obtained BSN and MSN from California State University, Long Beach and her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Denver.
