Cheryl enjoys living on an 11 acre property in Cat Spring, Texas, where she’s able to have longhorns, donkeys, three cats, over eight birds and 50 dogs. Cheryl is very passionate about her non-profit corporation Prevent Unwanted Pets (PUPS), which provides spay/neuter assistance to individuals who can’t afford to spay/neuter their pets.

Cheryl follows in her husband’s footsteps, creating a scholarship at her alma mater to make a difference for students. She established the Cheryl Mellenthin Nursing Scholarship in 2005. She also created the Mark Chapman Piano Scholarship in 2016 in memory of her husband.

Mark Chapman earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Kansas State University in 1965. He went on to earn a Doctor of jurisprudence degree from the University of Texas. Mark spent two years as a U.S. Army Signal Corps officer in Thailand before returning to the U.S. to pursue careers in real estate and the oil and gas industry. Mark was a poet, painter, and philanthropist, supporting many significant projects at his alma mater, Kansas State, and awarding hundreds of scholarships through the Mark A. Chapman Foundation.
