David Hodge

David Hodge graduated with a MFA from the University of Iowa. He was an associate professor of art at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh from 1964 until his retirement in 1998.

David established the Margaret and David Hodge Scholarship in Art Education in memory of his wife, Margaret, after her death in 2008. The scholarship is meant to encourage outstanding students pursuing a BFA in art education. He believes that the ideal of the artist teacher — an individual with a background of studio excellence and solid performance in the classroom — provides the fundamental model to aspiring art education students, and ensures the continuation of a qualitative teaching program for elementary and secondary students in public and private schools.

Margaret earned her bachelor’s degree in dramatic arts from the State University of Iowa in 1964. She taught dance and choreography at UW Oshkosh and also advised the women’s gymnastics coach on dance-related matters. Margaret was an energetic and devoted campfire leader to girls at the Rose C. Swart Campus Laboratory School. She also helped her husband hang shows in the Priebe Gallery and hosted visiting artists. Margaret touched many people of all ages through her kindness, generosity and open heart. Probably the ultimate compliment paid to her was when the little boy who lived across the street told his father that when he grew up, he wanted to be Mrs. Hodge.
