Dr. & Mrs. Hugh A. Kennedy Foundation

Dr. Hugh A. Kennedy, of Plymouth, WI, was a 1929 graduate of Oshkosh State Teachers College. He taught at Appleton Senior High School for five years before attending medical school at UW-Madison, where he graduated with an M.D. in 1938. In 1940, Dr. Kennedy moved to Corpus Christi, TX to work at the hospital built at the Naval Air Station construction site to care for injured workers. He served in the Army Medical Corps from 1943 to 1946, including a one-year tour in Europe during World War II. Dr. Kennedy practiced medicine in Corpus Christi until his retirement in 1990. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 91.

Margaret T. Kennedy, of Appleton, WI, attended UW-Madison and was employed by the Appleton school system. She moved to Corpus Christi, TX in 1940 and married Hugh. She was a member of the Nueces County Medical Alliance and the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Altar Society. She passed away in 1995 at the age of 89.

Through a generous grant from the Dr. & Mrs. Hugh A. Kennedy Foundation in Corpus Christi, Texas, the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Nursing established Kennedy Nursing Fellow Scholarship. These distinguished awards recognize the top nursing students in the college.
