Eldred George Mugford

Eldred George Mugford graduated from UW Oshkosh with a BA in radio-tv-film in 1974. He later earned an MA in public relations and cinematic arts from Central Michigan University in 1980. He served in a variety of roles throughout his career, owning and operating a photographic agency, teaching communications at Western Illinois University, and writing for television and films.

Eldred passed away in 2015, leaving an estate gift to establish the Eldred George Mugford, In Memory of Clare H. Mugford, R.N., Scholarship. He created this scholarship for nursing students in honor of his mother and her devotion to nursing.

Clare Helen Mugford attended the Milwaukee County General Hospital School of Nursing and worked there as a registered nurse upon her graduation. She later worked as a surgical nurse at the Calumet & Hecla Hospital and then, Calumet Public Hospital. Clare was considered by those to whom she administered care to be a dedicated nurse and humanitarian. During her long career, she specialized in caring for people in their homes, often walking in cold weather to care for her patients. If neighbors or others needed a nurse, she was always ready to respond and give advice.
