Everett "Gus" Pyle

The Everett G. Pyle Graduate Scholarship was established in 1997 in memory of Dr. Pyle, founding dean of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Graduate School. Dr. Pyle was a professor of English and an administrator at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh from 1946 to 1981. He was appointed director of graduate studies in 1963 and was dean of the Graduate School in 1965 to 1974.

A native of Kewanee, Illinois, Dr. Pyle earned a bachelor of arts degree in Latin from Western Illinois University and a master of arts and doctorate in English from the University of Iowa. He taught in public schools in Mitchell, Iowa and Unionville, Missouri, and at the National School of Aeronautics in Kansas City, Missouri. He also taught English at South Dakota State College, Brookings. From 1943 to 1945, he was an aircraft procurement inspector of the U.S. Air Force in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Pyle passed away in 1997.
