Family and Friends of Don Martin
Don Martin (1934-2025) served for three years as a paratrooper, first at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in the 101st Airbourne, and then at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his service, he was an Army Military Police Officer and also worked as a mechanic in the motor pool. After his military service, he went on to further his education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and later at the University of South Dakota-Brooking, earning his master’s degree and PhD in Rural Sociology. Dr. Martin came to UW-Oshkosh in 1970 to teach in the Sociology Department. In 1980, he received the UW-Oshkosh Distinguished Teaching Award. Don retired in 2003 after serving 33 years as a faculty member.
The Sociology Department established the Don Martin Sociology Scholarship in 2003 in honor of Dr. Martin and his retirement from UW-Oshkosh. The scholarship is given annually to a deserving sociology student.
