Family and Friends of Don Martin
Don Martin (1934-2025) served for three years as a paratrooper, first at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in the 101st Airbourne, and then at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his service, he was an Army Military Police Officer and also worked as a mechanic in the motor pool. After his military service, he went on to further his education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and later at the University of South Dakota-Brooking, earning his master’s degree and PhD in Rural Sociology. Dr. Martin came to UW Oshkosh in 1970 to teach in the Sociology Department. In 1980, he received the UW Oshkosh Distinguished Teaching Award. Don retired in 2003 after serving 33 years as a faculty member.
The Sociology Department established the Don Martin Sociology Scholarship in 2003 in honor of Dr. Martin and his retirement from UW Oshkosh. The scholarship is given annually to a deserving sociology student.
