Family and Friends of John Strous and Mary Rigney

The John E. Strous and Mary M. Rigney Medical Technology Endowment Fund was established in 2006, made possible by generous gifts from their family and friends, and from alumni of the medical technology program. The primary mission of this endowment is to maintain the continued excellence of medical technology program graduates and their positive impact on the profession by providing scholarship support to students and by providing unrestricted funding for the Medical Technology Program.

John E. Strous retired from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2017, after more than 25 years of service as the medical technology program director. Prior to running the medical technology program, he worked at Mercy Medical Center as a clinical laboratory PM/night supervisor and medical technologist. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology in 1972 and his master’s degree in biology/microbiology in 1982, both from UW Oshkosh.

Mary M. Rigney began her career in medical technology in 1951. She came to UW Oshkosh as a biology/microbiology faculty member in 1968 and served as the medical technology program director from 1985 to 1991. Mary received the UW Oshkosh Distinguished Teaching Award in 1991. She earned her BS from Northwest Missouri State College and her MS and Ph.D. from the University of Missouri.
