Family and Friends of Karl Iwen

Karl Iwen (1970-1997) of Wausau, Wisconsin, graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Nursing in 1995. In addition to his career in nursing, he actively participated in a number of activities including bicycle racing, skiing, and photography. His greatest gift as a nurse and as a person was his ability to spread the enthusiasm and energy he had to everyone he met. His friends, clients, and co-workers alike were constantly amazed and touched by his energy and good humor. In 1997, shortly after Karl moved to Oregon to fulfill his dreams of seeing the world, he lost his life in a hiking accident. Karl’s family and friends established this scholarship in his memory to encourage the same sort of enthusiasm for life, and to help other students share their gifts through nursing.
