Family and Friends of Stephen Bedwell

The Stephen F. Bedwell Award for Excellence in Anthropology was established in 1973 in memory of Stephen Bedwell, who passed away in 1972. Dr. Bedwell was an assistant professor of anthropology at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. He was head of the sociology-anthropology department’s anthropology section and played a major role in the development of the department, particularly in the archeology program. Dr. Bedwell received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and MA and Ph.D. (1970) from Oregon. At the time of death, he was vice-president of the Wisconsin Archaeological Survey and a member of the Wisconsin Environmental Quality Council Committee.
