George & Julie Sorrells

George & Julie Sorrells

George and Julie both graduated in 1987 from Indiana University. Julie received a BS in Accounting and George received a BS in Marketing. Julie went on to receive her MBA in Finance at the University of St. Thomas in 1995. She worked for Bemis since they were married. After Bemis was acquired by Amcor, Julie was asked to relocate to the corporate office in Zurich, Switzerland. Julie was recently named Vice President and Corporate Controller for Amcor. George served in the US Army Reserves and made a career in Retail Management, before earning his BA in Management Information Systems from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2002. He spent the next 17 years first as the Network Administrator and then the Director of Technology for Winneconne Community School District.

They established the George and Julie Sorrells Scholarship in 2017 to support business students. They believe that education is what has allowed them to succeed in their careers. The Sorrells feel fortunate to be able to sponsor scholarships at different high schools, college fraternal organizations, and at their initial alma mater, Indiana University. They are proud to offer a scholarship locally, because not only do they feel UW Oshkosh makes a difference in the lives of its students, but the University means a lot to both of them as well. While Julie was working on her MBA degree, the Sorrells moved to Wisconsin and Julie was able to complete a few courses toward her degree at UW Oshkosh. Julie has also been involved with the Business Advisory Board for over 15 years. For George, a degree from UW Oshkosh allowed him to make a career change and move from retail management to information systems in a minimal amount of time.
