George Soika
George R. Soika (1918-1986) was a psychology professor at UW Oshkosh, where he taught from 1959 until his retirement in 1983. During his time at UW Oshkosh, he also served as chair of the psychology department. Prior to UWO, he was an associate professor of psychology at Memphis State University and a clinical psychologist and department head of the Mental Health Institute in Independence, Iowa. Dr. Soika received a bachelor’s degree from Birmingham-Southern College in 1948 and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from George Peabody College in 1950 and 1953 respectively. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the South Pacific. Dr. Soika served as president and board member of both the Oshkosh TB and Health Association and Oshkosh Bureau of Family Service. He was also a member of Oshkosh Rotary Club, Wisconsin Psychological Association, Midwest Psychological Association, American Association of University Professors, Psi Chi, and was an American Psychological Association fellow.
