Harold Porter

Harold Porter was the head of Industrial Education and Art at Pittsburg State University in Kansas. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 1929 and a Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1948. Dr. Porter passed away in December 1994. He established the Richard Keith Porter Memorial Scholarship in memory of his son.

Richard Keith Porter (1951-1988) operated a private voice studio in the San Luis Obispo, CA area and conducted youth choirs at the local United Methodist Church. Originally from Oshkosh, he moved to California in 1986. There, Richard performed in the Mozart Festival and had been baritone soloist with the Cuesta Master Chorale and Pacific Repertory Opera. In April and May of 1987, he was guest conductor of the Cuesta Master Chorale. He was director of vocal/choral music at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa from 1979-80 and had served as the College’s chairman of the department of music for four years. He received a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 1973 and a master’s degree in musicology from the University of Illinois. At the time of his death, he was a candidate for a doctoral degree in choral conducting and voice at the University of Illinois.
