Jane Vesel

Jane C. Vesel is a retired Colonel in the United States Air Force. Jane graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a BSN in 1985 and a DNP in 2014. Jane is a Certified Nurse Midwife and is a 27-year Air Force veteran. Her career culminated in various leadership and clinical assignments, including serving as the chief nurse executive for the Balad Theatre Hospital in Iraq during Operation New Dawn. Jane received the UW Oshkosh Distinguished Alumni Award in 2017.

Jane established two nursing scholarships in 2018 in honor of her mother: the Rita. M. Barta Memorial Graduate Scholarship and the Rita M. Barta Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship. Jane dedicates her success to the unwavering love and support of her mother during her military career and time as a single parent.

Rita, also a nurse, attended Oshkosh’s former Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She continued to help others throughout her nursing career until her retirement in 2000 from North Central Health Care Center, Wausau. She passed away in January 2010.
