Kathryn Loy Calvin

Kathryn Loy Calvin (1910-2000) attended Saint Mary College and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1932 and a master’s degree from the College of William and Mary. She was employed as a social worker with the Federal Emergency Relief Agency and later the Central Trades Council. Kathryn returned to the University of Kansas in 1960 as an instructor in the Department of Sociology. She was a board member of the Kansas State Historical Society, a member of Native Sons and Daughters, served as Lawrence Housing Commissioner, helped establish a Catholic Social Services, and was active in the P.E.O. Sisterhood. In 1971, Kathryn was elected as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging, and in 1974, she was cited by the Governor of Kansas as a distinguished Kansan. She established the Dr. David C. Loy Scholarship in 1996, in honor of her son.

Dr. David C. Loy was an economics professor at UW Oshkosh from 1967 until his retirement in 1993. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Colorado College, a master’s degree from the University of Kansas, and a Ph.D. He served on the Winnebago County Board for eight years. David loved skiing, canoeing, and kayaking. He passed away in on January 5, 2000, at the age of 63.
