Li Hu & Ping Li

Li Hu was born in 1950 into a family of artists in Shanghai, China. After graduating from Shanghai University – Fine Arts College in 1986, he was appointed professor and taught painting for four years at his alma mater. In 1993, he received his MFA at the University of South Dakota. He was hired as an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 1994, later becoming an Associate Professor and then a Full Professor. He was awarded the Endowed Professorship in 2006 and is now a Professor Emeritus of Art.

Since 1994, Li has had more than 40 solo exhibitions and over 100 juried group competition shows at art museums and universities throughout the United States and the world. His work has been collected by several museums and art institutions and 100 private collectors. His biography and work have been included in more than 20 books, including ’Who’s Who in the World’ and ’Who’s Who in America,’ published in the United States, and ‘One Hundred Outstanding Artists,’ ‘The Dictionary of World Famous Figure,’ and ‘The Dictionary of the Achievements of World Chinese Artists,’ published in Hong Kong and China. The Ning Bo Museum of Art in China features a permanent display of his work in the Li Hu Art Work Exhibition Hall.

Ping Li is an instructor in the UW Oshkosh College of Nursing and the Clinical Informatics Manager – WI Central Region at Advocate Aurora Healthcare. She earned an MSN in informatics at Duke University.

Li Hu and Ping Li established the Li Hu Art Student Scholarship shortly before Li passed away in 2016.
