Marlene Andrews graduated from UW Oshkosh in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in social science. She received her master’s degree in special education in 1975. Following graduation, she was employed at UW Oshkosh as an instructor in the Special Education Department from 1974-1979. Marlene raised her children and held other educational positions before returning to UW Oshkosh. From 1991 until her retirement in 2011, she worked in the Special Education Department training thousands of future educators.

Marlene’s father, Robert Merrill, and Marlene’s three daughters, Bridget, Katie, and Kelly, also attended UW Oshkosh. Bridget graduated in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in Special Education. Katie graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2005. Kelly attended UW Oshkosh for two years before transferring to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The Andrews Family is very proud of UW Oshkosh and the education they received. They feel strongly that their alma mater provides a quality education for all students. They recognize the importance of education and being involved within the Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC) organization. Bridget Andrews was president of SCEC as she went through the special education program. Her family realized all the extra work that went into being president and serving on the board. Marlene Andrews and her family established the Andrews Family Outstanding SCEC Service Award in 2006 to encourage future special educators to take on leadership roles while in college.
