Richard & Phyllis Frederick

Phyllis Frederick’s goal in life was to always keep learning. In turn, she wanted all of her students to keep learning. She established the Richard & Phyllis Frederick Elementary Education Scholarship at UW Oshkosh because that’s where she received her bachelor’s degree in 1952. After college, Phyllis started her professional career teaching grades 1-8 in Newburg, WI. Soon after, she focused on older children, teaching grades 5-8 in Random Lake, before settling in Beaver Dam, where she taught for the remainder of her 38-year teaching year.

One of Phyllis’s proudest moments was when she was recognized by her peers and administrators and chosen as Elementary Teacher of the Year for the Beaver Dam Unified School District. She was also recognized by the Wisconsin State Historical Society with the Parker Pen Award and by Rotary International for her contributions to education. She traveled the world extensively, having been to all continents except Antarctica, which enabled her to compare cultures, enhance her knowledge of areas, and share that experience with her many students over the years. She wishes all students the best in pursuing their dreams of becoming future teachers.

Richard Frederick passed away in 1985 and Phyllis in August 2019.
