Robert Havens

Robert (Pete) Havens retired from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2003, after 36 years as a professor of professional counseling. He was a founder of the department of counselor education (now know as professional counseling), developed and supervised the department’s counseling laboratory, and led the department’s successful accreditation reviews in 1992 and 1999. Dr. Havens was a leader in the development of standards for the counseling profession for over thirty years. He was president of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision in 1978-79, during which time a national system for the accreditation of counselor education programs was developed. Dr. Havens received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Havens established the Robert (Pete) Havens Scholarship in 2005, in recognition of the importance of the study of professional counseling. The scholarship is intended to stimulate and promote the development and professionalism of students preparing to become professional counselors.
