Roger & Marie Able

Roger Able (1946-2021) is the former president and CEO of Lutheran Homes of Oshkosh and previously served on the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh College of Business Advisory Board and the College of Nursing Board of Visitors. Marie Able graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 1985 with an MBA. Marie made a career change to nursing at age 50. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of South Florida in 2006 and her MSN degree in 2011.

Roger and Marie created the Phyllis Albrecht Scholarship in 2002 to honor Phyllis’s years of giving to others.

Phyllis was a caring and gifted nurse who shared her expertise and compassion with the residents of Bethel Home, a skilled nursing facility. Roger met Phyllis while she was an RN at Bethel Home, a subsidiary of Lutheran Homes of Oshkosh. Phyllis was a mentor to nursing student interns, showing them the true way to be an excellent nurse. A graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Phyllis was awarded the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice in 1998, an award created by the UW Oshkosh College of Nursing to honor outstanding nurses in Wisconsin. Phyllis had a three-part credo that she followed in life: serve others, serve the community, and take long walks with someone you love (in her case, her dog). Phyllis died in 2002 after a long battle with cancer.
