The Lippert Family

The Lippert Family

The Lippert Family established the David J. Lippert Memorial Scholarship in honor of David. Dr. David Lippert (1919-1983) came to UW Oshkosh to head the journalism department in 1966. He served as department chair until his untimely death from an automobile accident in 1983. The success of the department and that of the college newspaper, the Advance-Titan, was due to Dr. Lippert’s guidance. In 1977, he gained accreditation for the UW Oshkosh Journalism program. Dr. Lippert was a well-known newsman in Wisconsin, active in many organizations. Before coming to UWO, he worked for the Capital Times in Madison, the Phi Gamma Delta publications of Washington D.C., and was Madison bureau chief of the Milwaukee Sentinel. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his doctorate degree from the University of Southern Illinois at Carbondale.
