Walter & Linda Busalacchi
Walter and Linda Busalacchi both attended Wisconsin State University – Oshkosh in the late 1960s, early 70s. Walt worked as a student assistant and later, a graduate assistant, in the Intramural Sports Department. He graduated with high honors in 1972.
After graduation, Walt and Linda each had successful careers in the insurance industry. Walt worked his entire career with Aetna Life and Casualty (Aetna Inc.). After working in claim offices in Milwaukee and Green Bay, he transferred to Aetna’s home office in Hartford, CT. He initially worked as an employee relations consultant and later as a human resource manager and executive coach. Walt believed in better business results through more effective people management. He was appointed officer in 1986 and retired, after 26 years, at age 51. After relocating back home to Wisconsin, Walt reconnected with UW Oshkosh, serving two terms on the UW Oshkosh Alumni Association Board of Directors. As a board member, he advocated for an alumni survey, the elimination of alumni dues, and a more business-like approach to board activities. One former alumni board president described Walt as, “the conscience of the Board.” Walt was a volunteer mentor and sought out opportunities for alumni to share their experience and expertise with students.
Linda’s career centered on independent insurance agencies. She began working part-time and summers during high school as a file clerk. She progressed to rating, claims, underwriting, marketing/sales, and became a licensed agent. Linda retired at the age of 49 as an AVP, commercial accounts.
Avid cyclists, Walt and Linda supported the creation of and participated in the Tour de Titan homecoming bicycle rides. Walt also served as a member of the alumni/foundation dragonboat crew during the Fall Fest boat races.
Walt and Linda fondly remember their time at UW Oshkosh and credit their experience for enhancing the quality of their lives and contributing to their business careers. They established the Walter & Linda Busalacchi Endowed Scholarship in 2015.
