Suzanne Harriet Pearson Landes and James Hazelton Pearson Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to UWO students who meet the following criteria:

• Enrollment Status: Full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate student
• Declared Major: English BSE or graduate degree within the School of Education
• Minimum 3.5 GPA overall and in all professional education courses
• Grade Level: Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student
• Must be teaching or planning to teach English at the secondary level
• Undergraduate applicants must plan to student teach in the 2026-2027 academic year
• Graduate applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree in English (as either an education or non-education student)

Selection is based on academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular activities (excluding athletics), goals, and letters of recommendation. Financial need based on a statement will be of secondary consideration. Due to NCAA Division III regulations, athletic leadership, ability, participation, or performance cannot be considered in the awarding of scholarships.

Award Payment: Split evenly between Fall 2026 & Spring 2027. If the recipient is not enrolled in the required number of credits for the indicated semester, the award payment will be forfeited. If the recipient is graduating in fall, they are eligible to receive the full award in Fall 2026.
