Fredric & Janice Youra Piano Performance Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Fredric and Janice Youra ’70. Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student in the College of Letters and Science with a declared bachelor of music in performance major, with primary applied instrument as piano. If no qualified applicants apply who meet the bachelor of music in performance requirement, consideration will be given to other applicants with a declared music major. Applicant must achieve at least sophomore standing by the fall semester of the following academic year. Applicant must have an overall grade-point average of 3.0 or greater. In any given year, if two or more applicants are equal in piano performance, potential and ability, and meet the other requirements, financial need, based on an essay, may be considered. Students graduating in the current academic year are not eligible to apply. Previous recipients may apply in subsequent years. If selected, he or she may receive the award for a total of three years.

  1. Is piano your declared primary applied area of study?
  2. Please submit a CV and/or artistic statement including activities that demonstrate commitment to piano performance.
  3. Please submit a short essay addressing your goals, desires, training and piano performance experience.
  4. Applicant must schedule a jury performance at a time agreed to by the selection committee. Performance repertoire presented for the jury should be no less than 20 minutes and should include a minimum of two different styles. Memorization is required for the entire audition. I will contact the Music Department to schedule my performance.
  5. Financial need may be a consideration, but is not the deciding factor for this award. Applicants wishing to address this subject should include a description of his/her circumstances.
