This scholarship was established by Max Bowman, UW Oshkosh professor emeritus of chemistry, in honor of his parents, Earl and Alpha Bowman, who were both in the teaching profession. The scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at the Oshkosh campus and entering students accepted for admission to the Oshkosh campus as full-time undergraduate or graduate students. Applicants must have a declared or intended major in biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, geology, psychology, or a closely allied field. In accordance with the donor’s desire to encourage more African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans and females to enter the sciences, preference will be given to applicants from these groups. Recipient must be returning for the full academic year following the year of application in order to receive the entire award amount. If the recipient graduates in fall, the spring installment will be forfeited.
