Dr. Joan L. Simmons Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. James Simmons in memory of his wife, Dr. Joan Simmons, a tenured associate professor and former chair of the Department of Literacy and Language at UW Oshkosh. Dr. Simmons established this scholarship so Joan’s memory lives on through other teachers. Applicant must be a candidate or current graduate student at the Oshkosh campus in a licensure, certificate, or master’s degree program within the Literacy and Language Department. Applicant must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and must have at least 2-3 years experience teaching at the middle or secondary level or as a K-12 discipline specialist (art, music or physical education). Extracurricular (excluding athletics) or community activities, as well as demonstration of financial need based on an essay, will be taken into consideration, but will not be the dominant criteria in the selection process. This award will be paid out in Fall 2021.
