This scholarship was established by Max Bowman, UW Oshkosh professor emeritus of chemistry, in honor of his parents, Earl and Alpha Bowman, who were both in the teaching profession. Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at the Oshkosh campus or an incoming student accepted for full-time admission to the Oshkosh campus. Applicant must have a declared or intended major in biology, microbiology, biomedical science, chemistry, physics, astronomy, geology, psychology, or a closely allied field. In accordance with the donor’s desire to encourage more African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans and females to enter the sciences, preference will be given to applicants from these groups. This award will be split evenly between the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters. If the recipient is not enrolled in the spring semester, the second installment will be forfeited.
