Richard Sieg

Richard (Dick) D. Sieg was born on December 3, 1946 in Berlin, Wisconsin. Dick graduated from Berlin High School in 1964 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics education in 1968. He went on to earn his master’s degree from Northern Michigan University. Dick was the first member of his family to earn a college degree. He started his career teaching mathematics and coaching at Lombardi Middle School in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He later transitioned to Green Bay Southwest High School teaching mathematics and became the head coach for the girls’ basketball program in 1989. While at Southwest, he coached his team to six conference championships with three trips to the WIAA State Basketball Tournament. After Dick retired from teaching, he joined the coaching staff at Gillett High School as a volunteer assistant girls’ basketball coach. Dick was active in the Green Bay Education Association throughout his career and as a retiree.

Dick believed passionately in the value of a quality education. He worked tirelessly and dedicated himself to ensuring his students and student athletes reached their highest potential. He gave them the tools they needed, encouraging them to be their best every day and to work to be better the next day. The lessons he taught, his personality, dedication, and selfless service to others inspired his students and student athletes to learn, always work to improve, and to help those around them to get better every day.

Dick established the Richard Sieg Education Scholarship through an estate gift. He passed away in April 2015.
