Michael D. Wachtel Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to UWO students who meet the following criteria:

• Admit Term: Summer 2026 or Fall 2026
• Admit Type: Incoming Freshman
• Enrollment Status: Full-time upon enrollment
• Intended Major: Any Bachelor’s Degree
• Must file the FAFSA; the award will not exceed the recipient’s financial need
• Must have a superior record in high school. However, the recipient need not be the highest-achieving student academically, but shall be hardworking and motivated.

Selection is based on extra-curricular and community involvement and financial need. The applicant’s educational and career goals and character and work ethic (based on a letter of recommendation) are of secondary consideration. Due to NCAA Division III regulations, athletic leadership, ability, participation, or performance cannot be considered in the awarding of scholarships.

Award Payment: Split evenly between Fall 2026 & Spring 2027. If the recipient is not enrolled in the required number of credits for the indicated semester, the award payment will be forfeited.

Award Renewal: Recipients are eligible to receive three award renewals beyond the initial installment provided they meet the following criteria:

• Maintain full-time enrollment at UWO
• Make satisfactory progress towards their degree
• Continue to be actively engaged in community or University service
• Sufficient funding is available to support award renewal
